8 . It’s Tony’s birthday. He comes home and sees his dad and mom sitting at the table. On the table there is a birthday cake with nine candles. They say to him, “Happy birthday! There is a gift for you, Tony. Go and look for it in your room.”
Tony runs to his room. On his bed he sees a box. He thinks, “What’s in the box?” He opens it. There is nothing but a card in it! Tony takes it out and reads, “Dear Tony, I’m your gift. My 1st letter is in ‘way’, but not in ‘bay’. My 2nd letter is in ‘cake’, but not in ‘coke’. My 3rd letter is in ‘take’, but not in ‘lake’. My 4th letter is in ‘class’, but not in ‘glass’. My 5th letter is in ‘have’, but not in ‘cave’. What am I?”
Tony thinks for a while and then he smiles, “Aha, I know what it is. But where is it?” Tony looks for it in his room. “Oh! It’s not on the desk. Hmm... It’s not on the bed.”
Then he looks under the bed and finds the gift. “Oh! Here it is! Thank you, mom and dad.” Tony says happily.
